15-30 Minute Quick Sketches

A brief collection of quick sketches ranging from 15 minutes to 30 minutes in duration.

Indigo Roots  (Senior Thesis)

"Indigo Roots" is a collection that showcases a close examination of the greatness of fashion icons and my own personal design philosophy. As a designer, I strive to achieve depth and great value in my designs and collection themes by providing meticulous intention in everything I do. Whether that pertains to themes of social injustices, minimizing my environmental impact, or weaving in personal experience and narrative in my designs, I want to design something that matters.

Additional to my design intent is a hunger for being different and unconventional. I am a firm believer that the fashion industry can only propel forward by taking risks. Revolutionary designers like Dior, Claire McCardell, Balenciaga, Chanel, and Alexander McQueen brought to the public a desire to stand out and make a statement. For example, without Claire McCardell, we wouldn't have sportswear. If Chanel was not willing break strict societal norms and use menswear textiles or design pants for women, the world today would be a very different place. Nowadays in a world with no particular trend or direction, there truly is no need for rules. It's time to break them.

The special occasion industry has been especially stigmatized for years under strict guidelines which are exclusive to fabrications like chiffons, silks, and satins. With inspiration from designers willing to break up conventionality and the necessity for intention-filled designs, the collection "Indigo Roots" is born. Based on the "roots" of the fashion industry and combined with an unconventional twist on the typical special occasion floral motif is my denim special occasion collection.

Denim is one of the most common textiles consumed and worn today. On any given day, about half of the world's population is wearing denim of some kind. Unfortunately, denim is one of the world's most waste intensive and resource draining fabrications. The dying and washing process for denim garments alone contribute greatly to the pollution of the fashion industry. By utilizing sustainable sources, donations, and careful shopping, my intention with this collection is to minimize my carbon footprint and industry waste while making a statement that in every clothing category there is a way to be environmentally conscious. The primary textile in my collection is denim because of the great environmental statement that can be made, and the relatability and malleability the scope of denim can be. It is an incredible statement making fabric.

By using fringe, latticework, and other techniques, I hope to draw a visual likeness to tree and plant roots. Just using denim should not instantly conform my collection into a sportswear one. I believe that by applying couture techniques and embellishments to my fabrication and utilizing my inventiveness that "Indigo Roots" will read clearly as a sustainable and fresh take on what is definitively eveningwear. Through ribbon and thread embroidery, I aim to elevate denim and turn my garments into gardens; the representative result of my sustainable initiative.

Modish Misfit

This portfolio was a 2019 CFDA semi-finalist at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I designed a collection that breaks the unwritten rules of eveningwear by using what would typically be considered "unconventional" textiles for this market. Inspired by the most pivotal and influential fashion designers in history, I examined how they were able to make big change in the fashion industry. This collection is my attempt at making a change in the eveningwear and bridal markets.

Modish Misfit Flats

This flats tech-pack was part of my 2019 CFDA semi-finalist portfolio at the Fashion Institute of Technology. This tech-pack further breaks down my design, fabrications, technical details, and callouts for the Modish Misfit Collection.

Dear Reader . . .

This portfolio is an open letter to the intimacy of letter writing and its role in the human connection. A letter's simplistic nature manages to retain some of the most personal and pure moments in life. Some of these moments I'd like to share with you now.

To My Daughter . . .

Throughout life's journey, there is no gift more precious than a mother and daughter's bond. This Mother of the Bride collection is intended to be presented as a scrapbook from a mother to her daughter on her daughter's wedding day.

Noir.

This journal examines the era of film noir. Instead of focusing on the femme fatal, the plot thickens and this collection puts a feminine twist on the classic genre protagonist.

Piezo Electricity

This journal was put together through an open-ended prompt to solve a problem. The piezoelectric fiber has voltage and can be woven together with other fibers. When the piezoelectric fiber bends, electricity is produced. The jacket shown in the journal is an application for this fiber, and the electricity generated through movement can be used for a variety of functions including charging a device or connecting to GPS.

Falling Paint

In this collection, I explored a variety of knitwear and knitting techniques. Inspired by abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock, I interpret his technique into knitwear.

Power Play

Influenced by the sport of ice hockey, I designed an athleisure collection that takes the clothing tech needed for hockey into an everyday application. This collection is for the woman who is inspired and empowered to take on the challenges that come her way and rise to the occasion when opportunities present themselves. She's the "Enforcer" unafraid to fight for what she believes in, the "Captain" ready to lead her team to success, and the "Playmaker" creating opportunities for others and herself.

"In Technicolor"

This intimate apparel collection was influenced by 1950's silhouettes and shapewear and by one of the biggest global impacts on the society and culture of that time; the invention of color television.
